Fundamentals of Scouting: Earning the Bobcat Badge

All Current Scouts and New Scouts older than Kindergarten/Lion Rank

The Bobcat is a special badge that is required to be met by all scouts (excluding Lions) before any further ranks can be achieved and before any earned awards can be presented to the scout. There are seven requirements to earning the Bobcat badge. The requirements are:

Learn and say the Scout Oath, with help if needed.

“On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.”

Learn and say the Scout Law, with help if needed.

“A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent.”

– Scout Law

Show the Cub Scout Sign. Tell what it means.

– Scout Sign (for Cub Scouts, we use two fingers)

Show the Cub Scout Salute.

– Scout Salute (Index and Middle finger of Right Hand)

Show the Cub Scout Handshake. Tell what it means.

– Scout Handshake

Say the Cub Scout Motto.

“Do your best.”

– Scout Motto

With a Parent or Guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Child from Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide – Bobcat Requirements.
