Doing a “good turn” and giving back to the community.
Doing service projects together is one way that Cub Scouts keep their promise “to help other people.” While a Scout should do their best to help other people every day, a group service project is a bigger way to help people. While you’re giving service, you’re learning to work together with others to do something that’s good for your community.
Service projects may help the natural world, the community, or the chartered organization. Make sure to review the Guide to Safe Scouting to ensure Cub Scouts are doing age appropriate activities. Some service projects fulfill requirements for adventures in the Cub Scout handbooks.
Some projects that we participate in currently or have in the past include:
![]() Collecting Pop Tabs for Ronald McDonald House Scouts collect aluminum tabs from pop cans and other tabbed food containers throughout the scouting year. These tabs are then donated to the Ronald McDonald House where the proceeds earned from recycling them are used to fund RMH operations in many local area hospitals. ![]() Fall and Spring clean up at Stearns Farm Scouts assist with straightening up the grounds and feeding the animals in preparation for the farm’s opening to the public in the spring and readying for the winter in the fall. (For more information about the Farm, see: Stearns Homestead) |
Picking up trash at local parks Scouts help keep our local parks and the environment clean by collecting and properly discarding trash and debris found within our parks. |
Playing Bingo at local nursing homes Scouts take the opportunity to entertain the residents of our local nursing homes by playing Bingo with them while engaging them in conversation. The residents greatly appreciate the time as it is a chance to visit with local youth while being able to share some of their life’s experiences with them. |
